POSITION TITLE: SCHOOL SECURITY OFFICER
REPORTS TO: Security Coordinator
OVER-TIME STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
PAY GRADE: 412
JOB SUMMARY: Performs responsible protective service work in maintaining security at the school; does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Conducting surveillance of school buildings, grounds and activities; ensuring the security of the school; enforcing established rules and regulations.
- Patrols hallways, stairwells, restrooms and parking area;
- Supervises the loading and unloading of buses;
- Maintains security during lunch periods;
- Provides security during sports events and other activities;
- When requested and available will accompany bookkeeper/treasurer, in the bookkeeper/treasurers vehicle to make a bank deposit;
- Checks all windows, doors and entrances of building to make certain they are secured;
- Prevents admittance of unauthorized persons to the premises;
- Intervene and physically restrain during altercations as necessary;
- Investigates unusual conditions or disturbances;
- Investigates assaults, larcenies and general student complaints;
- Secures petitions and warrants for offenses that occur on school property;
- Testifies in court as required;
- Opens and closes building;
- Performs related tasks as required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of practices concerning the protection of school buildings and grounds; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to recognize and identify activities or situations which have or may become a problem or emergency requiring immediate attention; ability to think and act quickly, effectively and responsibly under emergency situations; good physical condition.
This work requires the exertion of up to 150 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires standing, and walking; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in security work. Ability to qualify as a Conservator of the Peace. Must possess and maintain a valid VA drivers license; Recertify in
CPR annually.
