Job Description A global leader in sustainable metal recycling is looking for a
Safety, Health, and Environmental Coordinator to serve as the principal liaison for the SHE department, focusing on safety, risk management, occupational health, environmental stewardship, and regulatory adherence. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator with a deep understanding of safety and occupational health practices. Working cross-functionally, the new team member will contribute to business efficiency by providing comprehensive support while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Responsibilities: - General
- Build trusting, collaborative relationships with managers, supervisors, and workers across all functions within the organization. Influence behavior to progress proactive safety culture.
- Tour all areas within your facilities on a weekly basis.
- Support and communicate regularly with employees, identify and address hazards, improve existing practices, and complete compliance-related duties.
- Execute strategies to prevent injuries and environmental incidents.
- Conduct workplace and work practice risk assessments, audits, and inspections in support of continued improvement and maintaining compliance.
- Identify unsafe equipment operation and conditions. Retain familiarity with safe operation of various types of heavy mobile and stationary equipment (including but not limited to forklifts, skidsteers, front-end loaders, telehandlers, excavators, material handlers with grapple and magnet attachments, cranes, aerial lifts, scissor lifts).
- Direct and/or assist proper course of action after discovery of hazardous materials in deliveries. Coordinate response and removal with appropriate contractor.
- Conduct and Manage Employee Training
- Supervise employee training fulfillment and maintain records accordingly. Manage physical and electronic training files, as well as online Learning Management System platform.
- Conduct training in classroom and field settings.
- Coordinate training by appropriate third party when necessary.
- Incident Response and Investigation
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and other unsafe occurrences.
- Assist with immediate post-incident response. This may include assisting in the transport of employees in need of medical aid/examination.
- Identify and further investigate contributing factors. Conduct interviews with involved personnel and witnesses. Preserve and collect evidence. Conduct formal root-cause analysis when appropriate.
- Formulate preventative action plan with support of operational and SHE management. Use research, technical knowledge, human factors, etc. to support conclusions.
- Document comprehensive investigation report.
- Support modified duty program through communication with occupational clinics, injured employees, and managers.
- Environmental Compliance and Protection
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements. Identify gaps and work with facility manager, VP SHE, and consultants to correct.
- Assist with coordinating emergency release response and reporting.
- Assist management with completion of periodic inspections, stormwater sample collection, and all other activities pertaining to environmental protection as required by applicable regulations.
- Maintain organized files of all required records.
- Assist with completing permit applications and updating SWPPP and SPCC.
- Travel
- Regular travel is primarily limited to day trips, however overnight stays are optional depending on circumstances and preference. Some infrequent overnight travel will be required for department and company meetings.
- Overnight travel will be more frequent during your initial onboarding period, during which you will visit EMR facilities throughout the larger Southern region to learn about our diverse operations.
Requirements: - Associate Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field from an accredited institution and five years full time safety and/or occupational health operations; An additional four years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirements
- Broad technical knowledge of relevant regulations and standards with depth in some areas; Experience researching and interpreting laws and regulations
- Must have experience leading and recording comprehensive incident investigations and skillfully conducting post-incident interviews
- Must have proven applied experience using recognized, formal root cause analysis method
- Experience conducting classroom and on-the-job training
- Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Must have the ability to travel on a weekly basis
- Must be able to maintain a valid driver's license
- Skilled at prioritizing, highly organized, and self-motivated; Able to manage a demanding workload, meet critical deadlines, and work under minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills; Has an eye for detail and accuracy
- Make decisions and take action based on through assessment of circumstances; Seek to understand underlying causes of problems to implement effective solutions
- Experienced in writing incident reports that offer a detailed and accurate description of events

- Maintain composure and stability in stressful circumstances
- Preferred qualifications include:
- OSHA 501/511 authorized
- Familiarity with lift trucks, cranes, material handlers, MEWPs, other heavy mobile equipment
- Practical rigging/lifting experience
- Radiation Surveying
- Hot work programs, heavy metals monitoring
- Affiliation with recognized Safety Associations
- HAZWOPER
