Job Description For: ITINERANT ELEMENTRY MUSIC TEACHER – GRADES TK-5
- This position description shall apply to all certificated personnel holding the position titled: Itinerant Elementary Music Teacher – Grades TK-5
- Minimum Qualifications: Shall meet or exceed the minimum required by law
- Bachelor's degree with Music major, minor, or related field-work desirable
- A valid California Teaching Credential with English Learner or Bilingual Authorization such as one of the following: Single Subject Credential for Dance
- Single Subject Credential with Supplemental Authorization in Music
- Single Subject Music
- Multiple Subject Credential with Supplemental Authorization in Music
- Reports To: Coordinator, Visual and Performing Arts, Educational Services
- Duties and Responsibilities: Not limited to: Design and deliver an inclusive, standards-based, comprehensive and sequential music curriculum;
- Design and deliver curriculum and demonstrate pedagogical practices that honor and center multi-ability, multiracial, multicultural, and multilingual artists, artistic processes, projects, and exemplar artworks;
- Design and deliver curriculum that centers students' strengths, abilities, interests, and opportunities for individual growth, creativity, empathy, and community-building;
- Provide differentiated instruction and accommodation for all students including ELD, Special Education, Foster and Homeless youth;
- Demonstrate student-centered pedagogy such as discovery-based learning, open-ended questioning, and facilitation of discussion and reflection to develop critical thinking and communication skills;
- Demonstrate cross-content alignment to ensure all students receive standards-based dance instruction in foundational skills as well as fully integrated lessons;
- Collaborate with elementary, middle, and high school music teachers, where possible, to support vertical alignment and consistency in dance content across the district;
- Clearly communicate instructional objectives with classroom teachers, students, and families on a regular basis;
- Use student data and professional reflection to plan and revise curriculum and instruction on an ongoing basis;
- Analyze student work to monitor needs and successes for each and every student;
- Keep accurate records of equipment inventory;
- Monitor and manage dance equipment, and communicate maintenance needs with administrators.

- Demonstrated ability to work with various staff, students and site principals
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with parents
- Knowledge of Kodaly, Orff pedagogies
- Ability to: Teach a global-minded music curriculum that reflects the interests, diversity, and languages of students;
- Employ inclusive practices and strengths-based, equity-based pedagogy;
- Demonstrate a commitment to supporting our traditionally marginalized youth;
- Work collaboratively, with the capacity to work independently;
- Communicate professionally with sound judgment, and strong organizational skills;
- Encourage a culture of mutual respect and equitable practice;
- Understand student academic needs and differentiate instruction to meet those specific needs;
- Be supportive and knowledgeable of students’ social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs;
- Understand the benefits of showcasing student work within the local and wider school community;
- Scaffold instructional activities that facilitate engaging and appropriate learning opportunities.
- Working Conditions:
- Physical Demands: Employees in this classification sit, walk, stand, lift, and carry up to 25 lbs., repetitively use fingers, wrists or hands in a twisting or hands in a twisting motion or while applying pressure, use both hands simultaneously, speak clearly, hear normal voice conversation, drive a vehicle, use a computer and a telephone.
- Work Environment:
- Employees in this classification work indoors and outdoors, with a high volume of work, tight deadlines, continuous interruptions, and changing priorities.
- Insurance Requirement: This position requires travel to various locations throughout the District. Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License and availability of a motor vehicle is required. Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle, which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and the ability to maintain insurability.
