**Western Canada_Sales Representative_Wood Coatings**

**Location:** Port Hope, CA **Job Purpose**

The Technical Sales Representative promotes, sells and secures new business, including major accounts. He develops new territories and secure new accounts while also developing full market potential of existing customer. He demonstrates products and services and assist prospects in selection of those best suited to their needs. He prepares documentation including quotation, term of sales, delivery dates and service obligation as well as periodic report to management. He plays a part in coaching and supporting the company's technical staff in determining customers needs. Likewise, he acts as AkzoNobel representative in the face of the customer by promoting the company values, ethic and standards.

The incumbent of the position will be in charge of a territory in Western Canada/PNW

* Must follow and adhere to companys Code of Conduct

* Sees that all orders and other customer communications are promptly and accurately handle. Insures appropriate action on customer service problems.

* Establishes and maintains top level contact with the management of existing and potential customers.

* Coordinate product development, inventory and ordering

* Formulation of special colors and minor modifications to improve application of curing; preparation of test panels.

* Weekly communication with upper management and purchasing department

* Manage (on site) the AkzoNobel customer relationship and communicate with AkzoNobel departments on the customers changing needs

* Keep customer updated of pertinent information and "cutting edge" finish technologies

* Manage the duties of full time service reps that are assigned to sales territory

* Insure proper pricing is communicated to the customer

* Communicate account activities to Sales Manager on a routine basis

* Maintains a professional and positive attitude

* Responsible for complying with companys Performance and Development Dialog, ensuring his or her staff meets all compliance deadlines

* Assist in the coordination of all new finish development between Design, Marketing and Manufacturing

* Keep the manufacturing facility operating under normal production capacity with an emphasis on quality of finished product

* Work with customer on cost improvement opportunities

* Attend seminars and trade shows as determined by Sales Manager and Marketing Manager and, on occasion, travel with customers to view new technologies

* Keep abreast of new technology and products and communicate to customer

* Be proactive in utilization of productive customer with lunches, dinners, extracurricular activities

**Experience**

* 5-8 years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of key responsibilities and knowledge as presented

* Minimum of 5 years in the coating, chemical industry, preferably in Wood Coatings industry.

* Ability to read and comprehend instructions and safety guidelines

* Ability to coordinate staff and resources in supporting the AkzoNobel sales team and related areas including identifying and resolving customer, management and sales problems

* Ability to interact and communicate in English with all levels of the organization effectively and precisely

* Ability to work independently

* Ability to multitask and balance priorities

* Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills

* Computer skills; email, reporting, CRM, etc.

* Coaching/teaching and decision-making skills

* Ability to assign and direct work to subordinates

* Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time

* Ability to travel locally within the territory 80% of the time and some overnight travel 20% of time and work a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends

**Education**

* Post-secondary education with technical diploma in a related field
