Job Description

Position Summary: NJPAC Teaching Artists are professional artists and educators who teach a variety of arts disciplines in various environments across New Jersey. Programs are offered virtually and on-site to schools, community centers, and childcare centers. Teaching Artists receive payment for ongoing training, meetings, and planning time. Employment is on-call, with work fluctuating based on season, sales, and availability.

Pay Rates:

  • Facilitation: $50-$80/hr
  • Meetings and Training: $28.35/hr
  • Documentation: $13/hr

Current Opportunities:

Dance:

  • Creative Movement: Engage elementary students in storytelling and literacy development through dance.
  • World Dance: Open to all cultural dance artists for grades 3 to 6; lesson planning required.

Hip Hop:

  • Emcee’ing, Beatboxing, DJ’ing, Music Production, Graffiti, Dance

Music:

  • Recorder, Beginning Band

Professional Development Facilitators:

  • All Artistic Disciplines

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitate developmentally appropriate workshops, residencies, and classes that promote social-emotional and artistic learning.
  • Create and share curriculum outlines and lesson plans with NJPAC staff and school personnel.
  • Communicate effectively with NJPAC and school staff regarding programming.
  • Participate in paid meetings and training at NJPAC.
  • Travel and work in diverse schools and community settings across New Jersey; some virtual options may be available.

Qualifications and Special Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts, education, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional experience in a performing art form or as a teaching artist or educator.
  • Experience with diverse populations and ages.
  • Understanding of healing-centered, culturally responsive, anti-racist, and social-emotional learning principles.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and teach in various school settings in New Jersey.
  • Reliable transportation and required background check & fingerprinting clearance.
