POSITION SUMMARYThe RSFWC Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for coordinating substance abuse services for American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) clients. The Substance Abuse Counselor identifies clients’ substance abuse treatment needs; develops recommendations and treatment plans; provides direct services including counseling and case management; collaborates with residential treatment providers and other referring agencies; and facilitates linkages and referrals to resources in the community. The Substance Abuse Counselor is part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides comprehensive substance abuse and mental health treatment for AI/AN adolescents and adults.

Physical Demands:The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the primary functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk frequently, sit, bend, twist, talk, and hear. There are prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision.
