General Description The Social Media and Communications Intern will be responsible for creating content and managing our social media accounts. This includes promoting programs, advertising special events and updating the community as needed. The intern will also assist in improving communication with participants, staff and the community through email, website updates, and occasional surveys. They will perform duties under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Recreation. The intern will frequently determine their own practices and is expected to use independent judgment when appropriate. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, creative, organized and sociable.
Hybrid position with flexibility to work from home as well as in-person for photo opportunities, meetings, programming & special events. Hours may vary, 10-15 hrs./week during the school year, 20-30 hrs./week in the summer
This position has the potential to continue into summer & throughout the year.

Download the Background Check Consent form here. Job Functions Create and schedule weekly content on behalf of Middleton Parks & Recreation to be published on multiple social media platforms including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor and Youtube
Understand the key demographics of our audience and adjust content creation accordingly
Explore new and innovative strategies to reach our community through digital mediums
Work collaboratively with staff to promote programs, events, and services put on by Middleton Parks & Recreation
Design brochures, flyers, graphics and other marketing materials for specific events and projects as needed
Visit programs, classes, special events, etc., to take photos, videos, and gather feedback
Assist in the creation of future recreation guides by providing photos taken throughout the internship and design experience
Create and publish weekly to monthly email blasts to our participants
Maintain and update information on the City of Middleton Website
Availability to work evenings, weekends, or other irregular hours as necessary for special events, programs & photo opportunities
Perform other related job duties as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of digital marketing, social media platforms, and analytical tools
Some knowledge with Adobe Premiere Pro or YouTube Studio
Some knowledge of Middleton Parks & Recreation programming and/or annual events
Must possess interpersonal, public relations and communication skills
Excellent personal computer skills
Effectively communicate ideas and information both in written and oral forms in Standard English
Time management skills that include setting priorities and following through to meet assignment deadlines
Bilingual/Multilingual skills desired, not required
Proven ability to write professionally
Ability to use programs efficiently & effectively including Microsoft Word, Survey Monkey, Excel & Outlook
Ability to update website or social media pages
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, as well as promote and maintain high morale and enthusiasm
Ability to move around, in and out of the office depending on schedule
Education, Training and Experience Pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university with a major in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
Experience using Canva and Facebook Meta Suite, or another scheduling program like Hootsuite
Experience with standard business software
