Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to join our clients team in Ruston Louisiana. This role is vital in driving continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance while championing a proactive safety culture. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with plant operations corporate safety and environmental teams to help achieve their vision of a zeroharm workplace.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and advocate for safe practices in alignment with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for OSHA and EPA compliance providing guidance on regulatory matters.
  • Investigate workplace incidents perform root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Develop and maintain robust safety monitoring and recordkeeping systems.
  • Coordinate and lead the plant Safety Committee creating actionable plans and reporting progress to leadership.
  • Design and deliver impactful safety and environmental training programs for all plant personnel.
  • Manage documentation for compliance including OSHA logs inspection records and environmental reports.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives such as Lean Kaizen and 5S to enhance facility operations.
  • Ensure the proper handling and disposal of solid universal and hazardous wastes.
  • Oversee compliance with environmental regulations including air quality permits wastewater management and waste reduction programs.
  • Act as the training coordinator for EHS programs using tools like SafetySkills .
  • Support workers compensation cases and related activities.
  • Monitor and maintain all safety health and environmental metrics ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Safety and Health Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Safetyspecific training such as OSHA 30 Hour or an Occupational Safety & Health Certificate.
  • Professional certifications in Safety or Environmental disciplines (e.g. CSP CIH OHST ).
  • Strong knowledge of federal safety and environmental regulations ( OSHA EPA ).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis/reporting software.
  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience in root cause analysis techniques (e.g. RCCA 5Whys ).
  • Flexibility to travel up to 5% and work in dynamic plant environments (e.g. climbing stairs confined spaces hot/cold conditions).
  • Be a selfstarter capable of independently managing EHS deliverables and driving results.
  • Exhibit a collaborative handson approach supporting both strategic and operational needs.
  • Foster a safetyfirst culture ensuring employees feel empowered and supported.
  • Demonstrate a history of creatively and effectively improving safety and environmental programs.

Desirable Attributes

  • At least three years of experience as an EHS leader in a manufacturing environment.
  • Expertise in specific EHS disciplines such as machine safeguarding or process safety.
  • Background in environmental compliance and waste management strategies.
