The Library is hiring a Public Services Director. The Public Services Director position is a multi-faceted Senior Management position leads the continuous reinvention and revitalization of the library collections, resources and programming provided within the eight library facilities and in our partner organizations to create an exceptional user experience. Identifies barriers of service within the library policy and procedure model and works with Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees to remove those barriers. Oversees the design, development and delivery of programs and activities, both in the libraries and out in the community, that support Dauphin County Library System's (The Library) mission and vision. Identifies and forges strong partnerships with other community organizations. Evaluates and redesigns library spaces. Evaluates services offered in each facility to continuously improve user interaction and individual workspaces. Expands access to library resources through outreach activities and strategic partnerships. Adapts initiatives as opportunities arise. Provides energetic and engaged leadership to a staff, guiding them in meeting customer service goals.
Education/Trainin g : Master's degree required. Five years supervisory experience.
Experience Required : Public library experience. Demonstrated success in project management. Excellent customer service and communications skills. Requires independent transportation for travel to libraries, programs, and outreach locations, excellent customer service and communication skills, ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted.
Essential Functions: - Analyzes current library public service practices, studies trends in the profession, and works with Senior Management Team and the Board of Trustees to recommend, implement, coordinate, and evaluate collections, services and programming.
- Develops short-term and long-range goals and plans for library operational services in keeping with The Library's mission, strategic plan and public services policies. This includes the oversight of design, development and delivery of programs and activities, both in the libraries and out in the community.
- Engages community partners and develops relationships with the community partners to develop outreach opportunities.
- Studies and plans development of library services and spaces to meet present and future community needs.
- Directly supervises the library operations supervisors, collection management supervisors and the programming supervisors.
- Identifies barriers of service within the library policy and procedure model and works with Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees to remove those barriers
- Works with area organizations and individuals to promote and represent The Library and to encourage strong partnerships and interest in The Library's mission. Speaks to community groups about library services and serves as a brand ambassador.
- Works with Senior Management Team and the Board of Trustees to review and develop public service policies, procedures, and long-range plans to fulfill the vision and goals of The Library system. Serves as the staff liaison for the Library Services Committee.
- Explains library's public service policy and procedures to public, and handles complaints and public behavior problems that are not resolved at individual libraries.
- Prepares regular reports of library activities and use, prepares budget requests, and writes grant applications.
- Assists district libraries with library service matters, upon request from the District Consultant.
- Attends staff meetings and continuing education workshops.
