The Washington, DC, office of an excellent midsize general practice firm is seeking a patent attorney to join its growing DC location. This firm has approximately 150 attorneys located in offices throughout several states and its patent practice is spread throughout the firm. Additionally, this firm is a top destination for talented lateral attorneys. It combines a very reasonable billable hour expectation with a highly competitive compensation to create an excellent balance for its attorneys.

We are seeking an associate with at least two years of experience with patent prosecution and an interest in, or experience with, IP litigation. Much of the associates practice will consist of patent prosecution but there will be opportunities to assist with IP litigation.

The associates preferred degree is in material science or physics, however patent attorneys with other hard science degrees are welcome to apply. Regardless of an applicants science background, we are looking for an associate who is experienced prosecuting patents across different scientific disciplines.

Base compensation for this role is $180,000 on the junior end and $250,000 on the senior end.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work on all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution, ensuring high-quality applications and responses.
• Provide patentability and clearance opinions to guide clients in their innovation efforts.
• Conduct thorough due diligence and analysis on patent portfolios, advising clients on strategies for management and licensing.
• Represent clients in patent disputes, including litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
• Collaborate closely with inventors and clients to develop tailored patent strategies that align with their business objectives.
• Stay updated on emerging trends and changes in patent law to provide informed guidance to clients.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active bar admission.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution and interest or background with IP litigation.
• Degree in Material Science or Physics preferred, however patent attorneys with hard science degrees are welcome to apply.
• Experience working across different technical fields.
• Exceptional analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
