Position Summary:
The purpose of the Material handler - Forklift operator position is to load and unload heavy incoming/outgoing shipment from carriers using forklift. Material handler verifies incoming and outgoing shipment using packing slip. Transfer incoming shipments from carrier and place into inventory based on color coded method. Replenish inventory into appropriates bays for small pack and order pullers. Move heavy materials throughout the warehouse. Verify incoming shipment using packing slip. Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
- Follow all company protocols for verifying incoming and outgoing shipment.
- Maintain knowledge of products, inventory items, and location of products
- Perform daily forklift inspections for safety and charge forklifts at end of shift
- Transfer incoming shipment from carrier and place into inventory based on color coded method.
- Disburse current inventory into bays for order pullers with extreme accuracy and attention to detail
- Replenish stock inventory on bays for order pullers
- Report any discrepancies between packing slip and actual shipment
- Process transfers (components) from third party vendors and place into inventory
- Unload incoming shipment from carrier. Verify packing slips to ensure accuracy and place shipment in inventory. Obtain carriers signature and submit paperwork to supervisor
- Load outgoing shipment into carrier using forklift. Verify picking slip for carriers. Obtain carrier signature and submit to supervisor
- Make appropriate contacts with management representatives to communicate any major issues during the shift
- Ensure all pallets and forklifts are removed from the floor at the end of workday
- Assertive team player and assist in other areas when needed
- Assist team with major retail chain orders
- Prepare area for inventory and participate in inventory count.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment and remove debris from floor daily
- Manage break and lunch relief as required.
- Take approved vacation and reduce absenteeism to ensure the success of the team
- Show correct sense of urgency to find and fix all abnormalities and other operating issues
- Ability to work occasional overtime shifts and work occasionally on Saturdays
- Must be available to work on Inventory days
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to tolerate sustained standing/walking up to 10 hours a day.
- Ability to perform occasional to frequent lifting of up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to utilize good eye-hand coordination.
- Ability to perform occasional bending and squatting.
- Ability to push/pull products and operate forklift of product weighing more than 1100 lbs.
Required Experience, Skills, and Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have a minimum of 1 to 3 years work experience in a distribution environment.
- Must be forklift certified
- Ability to understand instructions, work processes, reason and make judgments, problem solve, plan, coordinate, execute, and direct own work while coping with a variety of duties and expectations.
- Ability to work with specified deadlines and expectations related to the department.
- Ability to communicate clearly and distinctly (oral or written) with peers and supervisors.
- Good mathematical aptitude is required to make accurate numerical additions and subtractions.
- Ability to perform effectively under stressful conditions, prioritizing job duties.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, driving to root cause.
- Ability to read and interpret customer orders
- Must have the initiative and enterprise to tackle problems without supervision and develop creative solutions.
- Ability to complete all required safety and training courses
- Must have good interaction skills, work respectfully with a diverse group and build synergy
