Job Summary The Office of Inspector General (OIG) Investigator is responsible for OIG investigative assignments and assisting the OIG's audit and administrative functions. This position requires initiative, independent judgment, working knowledge of case management applications, and office-wide policies and procedures. This work entails dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information, requiring a high degree of discretion, integrity, and tact.
Major Duties MAJOR DUTIES - Investigates allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and employee misconduct.
- Interviews complainants, witnesses, and subjects.
- Collects and analyzes data and secures documentary evidence and other information.
- Performs management reviews and other investigative activities as assigned.
- Understands and applies laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts Whistle-blower investigations in accordance with Florida Statutes.
- Prepares various investigative reports, memoranda, and correspondence.
- Works closely with the State Attorney's office and law enforcement agencies.
- Obtains and documents complaints received through the OIG Fraud inbox and hotline.
- Completes complaint intake process in accordance with Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation standards.
- Conducts preliminary reviews and coordinates management referrals.
- Determines and prepares preliminary complaint dispositions for review and final disposition.
- Works closely with Audit Unit to assist with special projects.
- Collaborates with audit team to assess the effectiveness of controls, the efficiency and effectiveness of operations, and compliance with laws, policies, and procedures.
- Reviews and analyzes complex data, including accounting and financial records.
- Reviews and audits contracts and contract compliance.
- Provides administrative support to OIG personnel.
- Perform related work and/or special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION - Familiarity with statutes, ordinances, and charter provisions relating to the authority and functions of the OIG.
- Familiarity with the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation standards.

- The purpose of this position is to perform investigative and administrative duties in support of the Office of the Inspector General.
Supplemental Information SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Investigator reports directly to the Inspector General.
GUIDELINES - Guidelines include Florida Statutes, County Ordinances, the Association of Inspectors General, Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspectors General, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Inspector General Accreditation standards, and office policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality consistent with law and policy.
CONTACTS - Contacts are typically with co-workers, other county employees, court employees, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to provide services and to give or exchange information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping.
- The work is primarily performed in an office environment.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, criminal justice, a social science, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or four years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree.
- Demonstrated experience in complex report writing.
- Possess a high level of integrity and ethics.
- Willingness to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- The ability to obtain a Certificate as a Certified Inspector General Investigator (CIGI within 12 months of employment.
- A valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum of two years as an investigator or the equivalent, in either law enforcement or in another governmental capacity on criminal and/or administrative matters.
- Experience as an investigator or working primarily with investigative teams in law enforcement, or in a similar governmental capacity on criminal and/or administrative matters.
- Experience working in an Office of Inspector General or similar environment.
- Experience with contracts, finance, accounting, or grant processing,
