Position Summary

Taos Education & Career Center (TECC) @ UNM-Taos is a highly regarded adult education program that has served Taos County adults in improving their literacy skills, learning English as a new language, earning their High School Equivalency, and/or preparing for college and careers for over 20 years. TECC is seeking a talented education specialist to build programming and deliver instruction for adult learners who are working to build their literacy skills to pursue career pathways with life and family-sustaining wages.


Job Duties:
  • Coordinate a growing tutoringprogram.
  • Market and recruit for both volunteers and adult literacy students (age 16 or older & at a 6th grade literacy or numeracy level or below).
  • Screen for qualified volunteer applicants.
  • Develop and deliver developmental literacy and numeracy trainings for employees and volunteers.
  • Liaison between students and individualized tutors.
  • Assist emergent literacy student in identifying & completing economic, educational, family, personal, and societal goals as laid out by NMHED standards.
  • Facilitate the connection between adult-literacy students and various social services (DVR, Human Services, food & rental assistance, tax preparation services, Workforce Connections, job placement, childcare, justice-involved services and alternative transportation options).
  • Build relationships with public-serving institutions in the county to create quality programming in satellite sites and offer weekly classes and/or individualized tutoring sessions for adult literacy students and high school equivalency students.
  • Track and enter student data, such as progress toward milestones and attendance, into a comprehensive database.
  • Adhere to FERPA policies and procedures for the protection of personally identifiable information.
    Provide differentiated literacy and numeracy instruction in a one-to-one, small group, and class setting.
  • Work collaboratively with HSE instructors to identify students' literacy and numeracy learning needs and co-plan quality instruction.
  • Co-plan and co-teach with UNM-Taos content instructors within the Integrated Education and Training (IET) model in medical and construction pathways.
  • Write, review, and edit grants and proposals related to Adult Literacy or Adult Education within TECC.
This is a full-time, term, benefits-eligible position. This position will report to work in-person, at Klauer Campus, located at 1157 County Road #110, Ranchos de Taos.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree;at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • B.A. or M.A. in Education and 3+ years of teaching experience.
  • Strong understanding of literacy learning at foundational levels.
  • Knowledge of student-centered pedagogy or andragogy.
  • Experience working effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Technical writing and/or grant writing expertise.
  • Professional experience working with adult education and/or community college students in an instructional capacity.
  • Experience working with special education populations.
