Job Posting Duties include implementing the day-to-day operations of the city's internal and external communication program; serving as a project manager for the department; and executing various tasks related to marketing, communications, public relations and advertising. The scope of duties includes branding; writing; editing; and traditional media, social media, website and graphic design initiatives. This position plays a critical leadership role in the department. A Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, with major course work in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field and five years experience in journalism, public relations or marketing, as well as two years supervisory experience required. Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and excellent written and oral communications skills. Schedule may include some evening and weekend hours. Culture The Communications Department collects and distributes timely information to a variety of interested parties across a number of platforms. The department serves external stakeholders, including residents, media, other governmental bodies, businesses and interested opinion leaders. It also communicates to internal stakeholders, such as city employees, boards and commissions, the mayor and the City Council.
A variety of tools are employed to inform and educate audiences:

Additionally, a number of town hall and neighborhood association roundtables meetings are held annually where residents meet face-to-face with city leaders.
The Communications Department consists of six areas:
- Community Outreach
- Graphic Design and Print Services
- Media Relations
