Clinical Intern in our

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of Invasive Services
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt / Seasonal
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Fulfills patient care responsibilities which include: monitoring provider schedules and assist with organizing efficient patient/clinic flow; communicating clearly and effectively with patients/family members, providers and co-workers; accompany patients/families to exam room; assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, preparing for exam, etc.; obtain and accurately document pertinent information regarding the patient medical/clinical history in electronic health records; obtain and record patient vital signs (B/P, pulse, respiratory rate); perform 12-lead ECG; medication reconciliation; assist providers with various procedures.
- Fulfills responsibilities as assigned which may include: requesting/obtaining patient medical records; completing forms/ requisitions as needed; perform prescription refills via e-scribe, written and/or phone; undressing, photographing and re-dressing peripheral wounds.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities which include: use of universal precautions; adherence to bio-medical waste procedures; set up, utilize and clean instruments, equipment and exam rooms according to department protocol to maintain infection control; ordering, sorting, storing medical supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with Director in a timely manner.
- Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to: patient medical history and physical exam, procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants, patient education and explanations of risks and benefits, physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up, prepare referral letters as directed by the physician
- Performs other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE: - Knowledge of some medical terminology
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
SKILLS: - Skill in obtaining and documenting accurately detailed patient information using electronic health records.
- Skill in performing manual and automatic blood pressure assessment.
- Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and providers.
ABILITIES: - Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.

EDUCATION: High school diploma is required. Graduation from a recognized training facility for medical assistants is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year work experience in a physician practice is preferred.
REQUIREMENTS: Maintains minimum of basic life support CPR certification. Successful completion of required job competencies within 90 days of employment. Certification is desirable.
ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITION: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Work is performed in a clinical setting, resulting in exposure to communicable disease, body fluids including blood, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to the clinic environment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work is in a clinical setting. Work frequently requires a full range of body motion including handling patients. Work involves standing and walking for extensive period of times. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Staff must be able flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all emergency and disaster situations. The Cardiac and Vascular Institute
